“Chabad of Logan Square” at the Community Tent
October 13 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Chabad of Logan Square is founded on the principle that, while Jews embrace many levels of observance in their personal lives, there should be a place for everyone — no labels, no affiliations — to develop a sense of community and strengthen their Jewish identity. On the eve of Oct. 13th, the day that we are scheduled to be at the market, we will be celebrating the holiday of Sukkot. During the holiday, families leave their homes and eat their meals in a temporary hut called a sukkah. The temporary booths emphasize how the world and the Jewish people rely on G-d’s protection. Another unique holiday practice is the gathering of four different species–most notably the etrog, a citrus fruit with a sweet and strong smell–along with a palm branch, and twigs from the willow tree and myrtle bush. The Four Kinds represent the diverse types and personalities that make up our community, and whose intrinsic unity we emphasize on Sukkot.
We will like to use the opportunity at the market to raise awareness and encourage observance of the upcoming holiday.
