Interested in volunteering?
The Logan Square Farmers Market wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community. Our volunteers and Board Members truly make the market shine.
You can sign up for a volunteer slot by emailing Operations Manager, Rosie Fitz, at email@example.com OR on our SignUp Genius webpage. We rely on the strong arms and good vibes of our volunteer force to help the market look great and run smoothly! First and foremost, tell your friends about the market. The larger the customer base, the stronger our local food economy becomes.
Volunteers often receive discounts through our vendors and are eligible for discounted yoga classes at Tula Yoga Studio through their YogiCitizen Program. We host volunteer appreciations through the season, as a thank you and a way to get to know each other and our neighborhood businesses better. We really need help at all hours of the market, with a large number to assist us with breakdown and getting the site looking like 5,000 people didn’t just trample all over it.
There are three general time slots available for market volunteers:
1. Market Set Up Crew: 8:00am – 10:00am
You’ll make sure that everything is ready for the Market to begin. This includes setting up tents or stalls and signage, directing vendor traffic, helping vendors unload and other physical activities.
2. Chamber of Commerce Table Wizard: 9:30am-12:30pm or 12:30pm – 3:30pm
Set up the table at the Chamber of Commerce’s tent or stall. Once the Market opens, you will process all electronic payments (credit, debit, and LINK card) and keep the receipts for these sales organized. You’ll also help answer customer questions and welcome everyone to enjoy the Market. This is a great way to meet lots of interesting people, and serve the community.
3. Market Break Down Crew: 2:30pm-4:00pm
You’ll help close things down, and make sure that we leave the Boulevards and indoor location as beautiful as we found them. This includes taking down and storing tents tables and signage, directing vendor traffic, helping vendors load up, cleaning up garbage and other physical activities.
4. Waste Diversion (Shifts Available Through Day)
Our compost services are provided by emissions-free WasteNot Compost. Through this, we’ve been able to divert thousands of pounds from the landfill waste stream. As it goes, we rely on support from our market goers to ensure that waste items are going in the proper receptacle. Whether you volunteer to act as a good samaritan and assist in educating the general public about where things go, or you help the market management with the graceful task of sorting the waste, you are doing the market, our city, and the environment as a whole a great service by supporting this endeavor.
Can’t commit to a market shift?
There are additional ways to volunteer at the market. Current volunteer projects include Indoor Market Photography (snap and share market photos for the indoor market), Compost Outreach Program, Chef Outreach Program, Farm Marketing Assistance, Featured Vendor Profiles & Market Blog, Music Program (building out a weekly recording and promotional outlet for our musicians), Market Promotional Assistance (helping distribute flyers and information broadly), Research on Wholesale Distribution Channels, Cookbook Development, Outdoor Season Bike Valet Liaison, Health Liaison (to support the bike valet/yoga/activity initiatives at the market), and SNAP Outreach. We may be able to host groups of students and corporate volunteers with proper planning. If you’re interested, please send an email to Whitney (info below)!
We are also looking to build an Associate Board to help achieve fundraising goals. If you are interested and able to commit, please send a letter of interest and resume to Whitney Richardson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
